The journey
Puducherry is an easy sell — the grid of ochre colonial streets, the seafront promenade closed to traffic in the evening, and Auroville a few kilometres north. The drive up is straightforward and most guests break it at Chidambaram, which is directly on the route and has one of the finest temples in the state.
